Discharge Permit Rules

As of the 6th April 2010, under the new EPP2 regulations, you may apply to the Environment Agency online for an Exemption from Permit to Discharge for discharges from septic tank systems and sewage treatment plant of less than 5 cubic metres (25 persons) to a watercourse and less than 2 cubic metres to a soakaway.

Only sewage treatment plants that have the EN 12566-3 2005 Certificate can be considered for the exemption or permit.

In most cases, these discharge permit exemptions are granted and are free.

If your site has special circumstances that make it vulnerable, or the plant you intend to install does not have the EN 12566-3 2005 Certificate, you will be notified that you must still apply for a discharge permit.

For all discharge volumes above these figures, a Permit to Discharge will still be required from the Environment Agency.
